NASA will use hoverboard technology to explore space

HOUSTON (KXAN) — It may seem like a fantasy from Back to Future, but NASA is working with a company who has developed a real hoverboard.
A Silicon Valley startup, Arx Pax, teamed up with NASA to show how magnetic fields can elevate us. The team is working to apply hoverboard technology to move satellites.
Arx Pax CEO, Greg Henderson said “You can imagine it interacting with another object or satellite, being able to manipulate it, push it, or pull it.”
The technology will be similar to Star Trek’s tractor beam.

Former NASA Aerospace engineer David Ol Nick explains that “right now you need propulsion to do that you need fuel and that’s a limited resource, expensive to get that in space, if you have our technology, it can convert solar energy into propulsive force.”
Saving fuel means saving money giving NASA more options when it comes to exploring space.

The company says the goal of the technology is to be able to hold a satellite in space without it moving. Additionally it would be able to reel it in or push it away.
