Caesar Sant

Winston-Salem resident Caesar Sant, 4, played the National Anthem on his violin before the Greensboro Grasshoppers' game against Asheville Tourists.

A toddler that masters the violin while he is still crawling around in diapers probably sounds like a fictional story, or at least a true story that was exaggerated over time. But no, in this world, there exists a child prodigy that learned to play the violin at an exceptional rate. Not only that, but he mastered the violin at the tender age of two while other babies were learning to speak and use the toilet properly. It amazes me how intelligent this boy is. His intelligence has shocked people around the globe, but it may be his bravery that awed the most. The incredible violinist, Caesar Sant, has inspired thousands, if not millions, of people by constantly fighting and pulling through. While his life-threatening illness has been proven to destroy countless lives, Sant hasn’t allowed the disease to conquer him.

Sant, unfortunately, was born with Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA), a blood disease that affects hundreds of thousands of children every year. The young boy has been in and out of hospitals since he was conceived, due to strokes and the need for blood transfusions. The pain and grief must have been overwhelming through the years, but the entire Sant family has been by the side.

At the early age of just 22 months, Sant demonstrates playing, Beethoven’s 5th symphony, on an imaginary violin while sitting on his father’s lap. Some might scoff at the fact that he plays on an imaginary violin, but his movements are sharp and in accord with the music playing in the background. He isn’t even two years old and he understands how to play difficult music. The music he performs are extraordinary pieces from history that he memorizes. From Beethoven to national musical scores like, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” Sant is able to perform at a high level every time he picks up a violin and a bow.

In Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the city which the Sant family hails from, Sant demonstrated his incredible talent once again at the age of six by performing, Beethoven’s 9th symphony, “Ode to Joy,” at Saint Peter’s Church. His remarkable performance which lasted about three minutes portrayed his amazing talent to the congregation. The audience was undoubtedly impressed with the young boy’s act, giving him a standing ovation for several minutes.

The child prodigy is famous for being a masterful violinist, but his instrumental skills are so incredible that his other skills are sometimes overshadowed. His skills in math are exemplary, correctly solving second grade level problems before the age of three. He also speaks six different languages. If that wasn’t enough, he has a black belt in Karate. And all of these skills he has obtained are made possible because of his incredible memory. When he isn’t playing the violin, he is indulged in another one of his hobbies or he’s just having fun with his family.

Sant has a variety of talents, ranging from mathematical skills to being a violinist, with him being more recognized for the latter. We want to see more incredible works from the child prodigy. There are so many prayers that are going out for this young boy. He has shown progress in his healing through his Facebook profile page and we are happy for the hope that is coming forth. In the latest update on October 19th, his profile showed several pictures of Sant while stating, “Hi everyone, Here is another update (#10) mainly covering Caesar’s last blood transfusion and new physical therapy approaches. Thanks again for your support.” Once he is able to overcome this horrid disease, then he will be able to focus fully on his art. He enjoys playing the violin and I believe that he will become a legendary violinist in the near future.
